I took this book with me for my son’s karate class. I sat amongst the other tired moms and started reading. Then I found myself searching for a pen and sticky pad and I was turning down pages. This book delivers. When I read, “Your body is a natural body with natural needs that, when loved properly, loves you right back.” I started shaking my head slowly- yes, this made sense to me. So I read on, incredulous that I didn’t necessarily have to work HARDER to get the body and life I wanted, I needed to revamp how I was thinking and work SMARTER. YES YES I clapped. As I sat at karate and continued to read and smile, other moms became interested in what I was reading. Yes, it’s a catchy title and we women MUST wake up to what we are doing to ourselves!
The author, Stefani Ruper (find her community here on Facebook) tells a compelling story about her own dieting and body image issues that I related deeply too. I’ve fallen into the restrictive dieting mode and never-ending treadmill of over-exercise and sugar binging in my own day. As she points out, “The female body is uniquely sensitive to starvation signals and can turn to panic mode if those signals are detected.” So true! It doesn’t work. I ended up with health issues myself, and yes I may not be heavy, but my self-esteem and sex appeal certainly could use help! As I read through this book further, I found that yes, I needed to accept my body because pushing against my body’s natural state wasn’t working for me. I was fully onboard by page 27, where she begins her “Nature Rule #1- Celebratory Uniqueness.”
By the way, I wasn’t kidding about my sticky notes! If you’ve ever, and I mean ever, had any question about libido, grab this book. Questions about how to get your body to where you want it to be?- she has answers you will want to read. In my humble, feeling sexier-by-the-minute Mommy/wife mind, this book leaves no stone unturned for me. Pms, anxiety, or depression bugging you? Check- it’s in there…
… and you know what? I’m making the conscious choice today, as I choose healthy calories and high quality foods, that I AM sexy. I allow others to see me that way, I’ll strut my stuff, and just see what my day brings. So as she says in conclusion, this book and her journey may resonate with you, as it did with me. So remember, “You are worthy of love. You deserve health, You deserve healing. … You deserve to walk down the street with your head held high.”
She includes many positive healing messages and I found myself hugging the book to my chest in appreciation.
So ladies? ENJOY this book! I did and will read parts of it again and again.
